 1. Does the Battery Barn of Virginia carry all types of batteries?  

o No, the Battery Barn does not carry every type of battery in the world. We do carry a very large selection of batteries all the way from watches to big industrial batteries. Batteries that we carry but are not included on our website are motorcycle, car, truck, lawnmower, airplane (Gill and limited Concord), camcorder, laptop, golf cart, cellphone and many more specialty batteries that can't be listed on one webpage. 

2. Does the Battery Barn of Virginia only carry batteries?  

o No, we carry many battery accessories such as cleaners, terminals ends, cable (10 - 2/0 gauges), connectors, copper lugs, battery grabbers, camcorder battery chargers, laptop battery chargers, kill switches, wildlife tracking equipment, superwinch, battery boxes/tray, hydrometers, jumper cable clamps (50 Amp and 500 Amp) and trailer lights (LED). We also have a dedicated shop for rebuilding and repairing alternators and starters.  

3. What is Cold Cranking Amperage?  

o Cold cranking amperage is the discharge rating that a new, fully charged battery at 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C) can deliver for 30 seconds and maintain a terminal voltage equal to or higher than 1.20 volts per cell. This is the battery rating usually recommended by original equipment manufacturers. 

4. What is Cranking Amperage?  

o Cranking amperage is the discharge rating that a new, fully charged battery at 32 degrees F (0 degrees C) can deliver for 30 seconds and maintain a terminal voltage equal to or higher than 1.20 volts per cell. This battery rating is not typically utilized by original equipment manufacturers. 

5. What is Reserve Capacity Minutes?  

o Reserve capacity minutes are the number of minutes which a new, fully charged battery at 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) can be discharged at 25 amperes and maintain a terminal voltage equal to or higher than 1.75 volts per cell. 

6. What is Ampere-Hour? 

 o An Ampere-hour is the total amount of electrical charge transferred when a current of 1 ampere flows for 1 hour. In terms of ampere-hours, this references how long a current of a specific amperage condition can be discharged from a battery. 

7. What is a Pro-Rata Adjustment (Pro-rated warranty)  

o The adjustment pro-rata amount may be found by dividing the current suggested list price of the battery by the number of months in the warranty period, then multiplying by the number of months the customer has owned the battery. 

8. What is the difference between AGM & Gel battery design.  

o In an AGM battery the electrolyte is suspended in fiberglass mat separators which act as absorbent sponges. I a Gel battery the electrolyte is suspended in silica-based gel as a thick pasty material. 

9. What is your brightest flashlight?  

o Currently our brightest work light is the LiteBox HL which is rated at 5,300 lumens. The brightest handheld flashlight we stock is the Pro Tac HL5-X which is rated at 3500 lumens. 

10. What is the difference between lumens and candlepower? 

 o While there is a formula to convert between the two ratings (1 candlepower = 12.57 lumens), they are really 2 different measurements. Candlepower is a measure of radiance produced by the light at its source and is most commonly used when describing spotlights. Lumen's is a measure of the light that illuminates an area and is used to measure both flashlights and spotlights.
